UNO's Honors Program takes a holistic approach to applications, but candidates admitted to our program generally demonstrate more than one of the following (PLEASE apply even if you don't meet ALL the expectations below--we want to get all the information we can about and from you!):

  • Evidence of advanced writing and critical thinking skills (demonstrated in essay)
  • Evidence of intellectual, academic, and community engagement and commitment (demonstrated in essay)
  • Composite ACT of 27 or combined SAT of 1220
  • High school class rank in the top 15% or high school GPA of 3.75 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Transfer/On-Campus applicants must have a college GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)

PLEASE note that applicants are NOT expected to meet ALL the criteria outlined above—we want to have many doors to Honors!

ALL APPLICANTS are encouraged to arrange for a letter of support for their application to be submitted AND to complete an essay (question below), preferably by February 1, 2015. We are happy to receive your application after that date (the University’s deadline for scholarship considerations).

All recommenders should submit their letter in PDF format to
